How it works

“Creativity can solve almost any problem. The creative act, the defeat of habit by originality, overcomes everything.”

– George Lois

True innovation works like magic

Whilst it is not possible to invent or innovate for every situation, there are many situations where it is possible. Often the opportunity has been overlooked because the underlying science is either not understood or has not been considered in the right context. This is where the strength of Carpe D M comes into force.

Carpe’s unique capability is based on imagination and inspiration, combined with a vast amount of experience across many industries. There is no shortcut to experience. In the world of design, it is critical to know the scale of costs and apply the appropriate technology, not just the most immediate or newsworthy.

Experience across diverse industries fosters the sharing of ideas and concepts between different business areas. This dynamic exchange often results in innovative approaches in one field drawing inspiration from proven, low-risk methods in a completely different business sphere.

How do we do it?

Invention is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration – the inventive spark is the smallest part of the process. Without it there is nothing.

However, large teams and huge processes do not tend to create that innovative step. It is the domain of those with solidly founded knowledge, wide experience and imagination to think laterally and cross-pollinate ideas that generate the innovative step (which can then often be a foundation for a patent). As a result of this, you need an expert in the commercial design process who has an awareness of the business and financial sensitivities involved.

In short, we work together, and you have insight and understanding at every step along the way. It is your project… at the end of the project, the Intellectual Property (invention, innovation, circuit or design) is yours… absolutely.

Practically speaking / To summarise

  • You tell us what you want to achieve is as much or as little technical detail as you like.
  • We reflect back to you our understanding of your needs aligned with our basic design approach and explain how that answers your need.
  • Once the needs and solution(s) match we produce a proposal that provides the cost structure and payment milestones. You will know what you are going to receive and what it costs to reach that point.
  • We communicate at intervals between the milestones and seek your approval, or at least awareness of the steps we are taking.
  • When you are happy with a milestone, you pay for that stage and we move on, until we reach the end. The final payment makes the design and Intellectual Property yours.
  • We can stand back and leave you in peace or stay on hand to help transfer the unit into production. Similarly, if the sales team need training or a white paper needs to be drafted, we can help.
